‘Zulqan Beatdown 02’ enthralls combat sports fans at Bashundhara Sports City

Young and emerging combat fighters from across Bangladesh thrilled spectators with a day-long display of skill and determination at Bashundhara Sports City in the capital on Friday.

The amateur martial arts competition, titled ‘Crystal Insurance PLC Presents Zulqan Beatdown 02’, was held at the main ring on the second floor of the Zulqan Indoor Arena, a state-of-the-art combat sports venue at Bashundhara Sports City.

Amateur fighters from different parts of the country took part in the day-long competition, showcasing their skills and gaining valuable experience in highly competitive bouts.

According to the organisers, the tournament was aimed at introducing Bangladeshi amateur fighters to international-standard competition, improving their physical and tactical abilities and creating a pathway for them to progress to the professional level.

More than 20 bouts were held across three disciplines—Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), boxing and kickboxing. Each bout consisted of three three-minute rounds.

The fighters' speed, technique, tactical ability and determination to win generated considerable excitement among spectators throughout the day.

One of the major attractions of the tournament was the ‘Super 4 Amateur Championship’, where the two winners of the semifinals faced each other in the final on the same day. The champions were awarded the coveted Zulqan Beatdown Championship belts.

A total of eight belt finals were held in different categories. Winners of individual bouts were also presented with medals.

Alongside the men's competitions, women's kickboxing bouts in the 50kg and 65kg weight categories drew considerable attention from spectators.

Crystal Insurance PLC was the title sponsor of the tournament. United Medical College Hospital, an organisation of United Healthcare, served as the official healthcare partner, ensuring medical support and safety for fighters participating in the high-intensity combat sports event.

A medical team remained available ringside throughout the competition, providing an added layer of safety and confidence for the fighters.

The energetic presentation by official MC Wahida further enhanced the atmosphere throughout the event, giving the venue the feel of an international-standard sporting competition.

Zulqan Indoor Arena at Bashundhara Sports City is a specialised combat sports centre featuring a professional boxing ring, a full-size MMA cage or octagon, grappling and wrestling mats, and modern fitness equipment.

Speaking about the future plans for Zulqan Beatdown, Bashundhara Sports City's Head of Operations Masudur Rahman Manna said, “If we want professional-level fighters, we have to focus on amateur fighters. Zulqan Beatdown was created with that vision in mind. Inshallah, through this Beatdown, we will be able to develop professional fighters who will represent Bangladesh and its red-and-green flag on the international stage.”

The organisers expressed hope that regular competitions of this kind would further expand the country's amateur combat sports scene and create opportunities to develop skilled fighters capable of competing at the international level.
