The notice also seeks Tk 100 crore in compensation for allegedly damaging the reputation and image of the university.
Tanmay Kumar Saha, a former student of the Department of Law at the University of Dhaka, served the notice on Saturday (July 4). The notice was also brought to the attention of the secretaries of the Education Ministry and Home Ministry, as well as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka.
According to the legal notice, some of Fuad’s remarks have allegedly harmed the long-standing historical heritage, reputation and international image of the University of Dhaka. It said the remarks have caused distress and resentment among former and current students and other members of the university community.
The notice alleged that Fuad questioned the national contributions of graduates of the University of Dhaka over the past 50 to 70 years and made negative comments about them.
It further alleged that he made hostile, divisive and disrespectful remarks about respected teachers and faculty members of the university.
The notice said such statements have undermined the dignity of one of Bangladesh’s oldest and most prestigious higher education institutions and could damage its reputation both nationally and internationally.
As compensation, the notice demanded that Fuad deposit Tk 100 crore into the University of Dhaka Research Fund. It also called for necessary legal and administrative measures against him over the alleged remarks.
However, no statement from Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad was immediately available regarding the allegations.
